Check out the screenshot that Jim Boulton just shared with me. He's fitted his NeXT machine with a floppy disk drive and is meticulously documenting the NeXTstep WorldWideWeb browser / editor experience. I can't wait to see more.

Silvia, Cian and I had meetings in London yesterday. We took the opportunity to take Jim Boulton up on his invitation to check out his NeXT at the Error 404 exhibition. We haven't yet got our clone of Tim Berners-Lee's NeXT up and running, so this was the first time for us to get hands on with the original WWW browser.

1991 web page found, password lost

In response to an NPR story on the CERN project to restore the first website Paul Jones got in touch to say that he has a 1991 web page put together by the WWW team as a demonstration for the Hypertext '91 conference in San Antonio, Texas. Here it is:

We had some good leads this week for help with the NeXT which I thought I would share here briefly in response to a number of "what's happening?" queries we are getting.

We were quite astonished at the level of interest in the project when it was announced yesterday, on the twentieth anniversary of CERN making WWW royalty free. Hundreds of thousands of people came to check in on the first website and to learn about the project to restore it.

We have a great number of leads that came up following yesterday's publicity. People who have old machines lying around; copies of files that may be of use; expertise; ideas; stories. This is fantastic. Thank you.
